A History: Oaxaca's Winning 80s

From Skip Allen:

I'm honored to be remembered as part of OAXACA's history.  I skippered her in the early 1980's for original owners, the Burgin brothers, including 1981 Transpac.  In 1983 OAXACA won Class A in the Transpac in elapsed time of 9 days, 13 hours. You guys beat that time by a substantial amount this year. Then in the late 1980's I skippered OAXACA for Jim Riley when we won the 1990 Pacific Cup.. On stage at Kaneohe Y.C. for the trophy presentation, the PCYC Commodore butchered our name calling her OH-AXE-AWAKA.  He tried it again, and it came out OH-WHACKA.Image removed.

OAXACA was always a favorite of mine, as well the lightest SC-50 built at 15,500 pounds.  In 1991 Jim Riley traded OAXACA to Bill Lee as down payment on a new Santa Cruz-70, MIRAGE, and Bill sold the OAXACA to Bruce Hedrick in Seattle.
